When you drive the Badlands Loop Road, you will find overlooks and signs explaining the landscape. The South Unit, which includes the Palmer Creek Unit, consists of 133,300 acres. A more scenic route can be enjoyed by exiting I90 in Rapid City and taking Highway 44 for 43 miles to the Interior Entrance, at the North Units southeast corner.
